Notice of Vacancy – Board of Directors

The San Benito Resource Conservation District (RCD) has one vacancy to fill on its Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of 5 volunteer Directors who provide oversight for conservation programs which address soil and water quality, climate resilience, and ecosystem health on agricultural and public lands in San Benito County. The RCD provides free, non-regulatory, confidential assistance to landowners and managers. Current programs include a countywide wildfire resilience program, a pollinator and wildlife habitat enhancement program, and a program that assists small-scale farmers with conservation planning and practice implementation.
The RCD works in partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and a variety of local and regional partners to help landowners and land managers with the voluntary implementation of conservation practices on their properties. Serving on the RCD’s Board of Directors is an excellent opportunity to help shape current and future conservation efforts in San Benito County.
To be eligible to serve on the RCD Board, candidates must meet the following qualifications: 1) be registered to vote in California, 2) reside within San Benito County, 3) own land in San Benito County or be a designated agent of a resident landowner. Serving as an Associate Director for two years may be used as a substitute for owning land within the District. Candidates should also possess experience with agriculture and/or conservation and be familiar with natural resource problems and opportunities in San Benito County.
This is a volunteer position and requires regular attendance at Board meetings held once per month in the late afternoon, and occasional special meetings and events. There are no scheduled, set, or required District office duty hours to be served by RCD Directors.
